Symbols and Sayings on Chastity and Purity

Maria Goretti, Virgin and Martyr

Optional Memorial

Saint Maria Goretti was a young girl in the 1890’s. After her father’s passing, Saint Maria’s mother had to return to work while Maria looked after her five brothers and sisters. Sadly, a malicious neighbor took advantage of the situation and little Maria was killed. Saint Maria, at age 11, declared she’d rather die than be abused. She was canonized in 1950 by Pope Pius XII and is the Church’s youngest saint. [1]

All we have to do is look to The Holy Family to witness chastity and purity in action – Jesus, King of Virgins, Mary, Queen of Virgins and Joseph, her most chaste spouse pray for us!

Chastity and Purity is not just about refraining from sex outside the marriage vows it is a way of life in everything we do. What we watch, read, listen to and how and where we look. Do we guard our eyes, the window to our souls? Even what we eat and drink!
