Mercy is defined as compassion or forgiveness shown toward someone whom it is within one’s power to punish or harm. I like to define Mercy as listening to a family member or friend’s troubles, failings or fears and being there for them! Just being there and crying with them or allowing your heart to break with their’s, entering into their pain and suffering, or, entering into their joy if something truly great has happened in their life and celebrating that joy with them! This is called in the Greek, Agape! This is the love of God, this is selfless love! this is Divine Mercy!
Envy is defined as a feeling of discontented or resentful longing aroused by someone else’s possessions, qualities, or luck. I like to define Envy as secretly or openly being happy when another suffers a loss or heartache, or, secretly or openly being sad when another experiences happiness or joy or gain. This is not any kind of love at all except love of self. This is evil.
