Oremus Communications February 2018 Newsletter

OREMUS COMMUNICATIONS FEBRUARY 2018 NEWSLETTER
The month of January has come and gone, and there were a number of notable events which took place,
beginning with the Celebration of the Feast Day of Mary, The Holy Mother of God on January 1, 2018. What a
beautiful way to mark the start of the New Year! Being the Mother of God places Mary ahead of all the saints and
angels in Heaven, and her intercession on our behalf in times of trouble is extremely powerful.
In addition, there were other major feast days, such as the Epiphany of the Lord on January 7th, the Baptism
of the Lord on January 8th and the Conversion of St. Paul The Apostle on January 25th who helped lead the early
growth of the church throughout the Roman Empire. Also, The March for Life was held on January 19th,
commemorating the 45th Anniversary of the Infamous Roe v. Wade Supreme Court Decision allowing for abortion
on demand in the USA on January 22, 1973. Thousands, many of whom were young people, marched along
Constitution Avenue to show their support for the passage of a Human Life Amendment to the US Constitution
ending abortion on demand.

The month of February promises to be another important month in the church calendar. For example, the
beginning of Lent on February 14th, Ash Wednesday. On February 11th we celebrate the Feast Day of Our Lady of
Lourdes wherein Mary, Mother of God proclaimed to St. Bernadette that she was The Immaculate Conception in
1858. It is interesting to compare the similarities between this Feast Day and the Feast Day of Our Lady of Fatima
(1917) because at both events, Mary asked for the recitation of the Holy Rosary everyday and for the repentance
of sins. We also remember the Martyrdoms of Saint Paul Miki and Companions on February 6th who died for the
faith in Japan in 1597.
We also plan on having a number of guests to co-host the Oremus Communications Family Rosary Program
(OCFRP): on Saturday, February 10 we have Dr. George Isajiw, the grandson of Blessed Nicholas Conrad, one of the
25 Ukrainian Martyrs beatified by St. Paul II in 2001. Mr. Carl Malburg, Guardian of the International Pilgrim Virgin
Statue of Our Lady of Fatima will be with us on Tuesday, February 13. Last, on Friday, February 23, our good friend
Charlie DeFeo, renowned author and member of the Lay Dominicans will talk more about the March for Life in
Washington, DC. We certainly hope that you can join us on these special dates as well as on other occasions
throughout the days and weeks to come, as we continue to strive to make a spiritual difference. OREMUS
